ABSTRACT Interventions for parental training for families of hard of hearing children, including cochlear implant users, are identified as optimizing their developmental outcomes. In this single-case intervention study, we aim to describe the use of videofeedback in a remote environment, as well as to identify its effectiveness, based on the analysis of mother-child interaction, both for the mother's communicative behaviors and for the behaviors of the mother, receptive and expressive language of the child. Pre- and post-intervention measurements were performed, based on video analysis of the mother's interaction with the child, by blind judges, as well as through the application of assessment instruments for the child and the mother. There were 13 sessions, 3 of which were for evaluation before and after the intervention and 10 of teleconsultation sessions in which the videofeedback tool was used with the mother. Data were analyzed descriptively and inferentially, using the JT method, which determined the Reliable Change Index (BMI) and Clinical Significance. There was reliable positive change in the child's receptive and expressive language, as well as reliable positive change and clinically significant change in mother-child interaction after the 10 sessions of remote videofeedback intervention. Based on the reliable changes observed in this study, we present this model (televideofeedback) as a potential to optimize resources and efforts for therapeutic success in children's auditory rehabilitation, which should be studied in research with a rigorous method, for the broad recommendation of its use.

RESUMO Intervenções para a capacitação parental de famílias de crianças com deficiência auditiva, incluindo as usuárias de implante coclear, são apontadas como otimizadoras em seus resultados de desenvolvimento. Neste estudo de intervenção de caso único, temos por objetivos descrever o uso do videofeedback em ambiente remoto, bem como identificar a sua efetividade, a partir da análise da interação da mãe e criança, tanto para os comportamentos comunicativos da mãe como para os comportamentos da linguagem receptiva e expressiva da criança. Medidas pré e pós-intervenção foram realizadas, a partir da análise de vídeos de interação da mãe com a criança, por juízes cegos, bem como pela aplicação de instrumentos de avaliação da criança e da mãe. Foram realizadas 13 sessões, sendo 3 de avaliação nos momentos pré e pós-intervenção e 10 sessões de teleconsulta em que se empregou a ferramenta de videofeedback com a mãe. Os dados foram analisados de forma descritiva e inferencial, por meio do método JT, que determinou o Índice de Mudança Confiável (IMC) e a Significância Clínica. Houve mudança positiva confiável na linguagem receptiva e expressiva da criança, bem como mudança positiva confiável e mudança clínica significativa na interação da mãe com a criança após as 10 sessões de intervenção remota com videofeedback. A partir das mudanças confiáveis observadas neste estudo, apresentamos este modelo (Televideofeedback), como potencial para otimizar os recursos e esforços para o sucesso terapêutico na reabilitação auditiva infantil, o qual deve ser estudado em pesquisas com método rigoroso, para a ampla recomendação de seu uso.

ABSTRACT Purpose To evaluate the influence of education of guardians of hard of hearing children with formal education levels from elementary to high school, in relation to their information needs in the context of an auditory rehabilitation service. Methods Cross-sectional, observational study, with a convenience sample of 58 guardians of children with hearing loss. The Family Needs Inventory (INF) was applied, translated, and adapted into Brazilian Portuguese, and parents’ education was collected, in addition to the variables age of the child and age at diagnosis. Results In the quantitative analysis of the “yes” responses from the INF, all the families presented need for information , and for families with less education, the need for information about hearing and hearing devices was greater. In the regression analysis, there was no influence of schooling on the amount of information needed, even considering the chronological age and diagnosis of the child in the model. As limitations of this study, we highlight the absence of sufficient number of families with higher education for the analysis of the final model, as well as the impossibility of including other variables in the analysis. Conclusion The analyzed families with different levels of schooling showed need for information , and schooling did not influence the amount of information required by them. It was possible to observe a qualitative difference in the topics of needed information, which alerts to the importance of investigation about the needs of families in child auditory rehabilitation programs, to implement more family-centered approaches.

RESUMO Objetivo avaliar a influência da escolaridade de responsáveis por crianças com deficiência auditiva com níveis de educação formal do ensino fundamental ao ensino médio, em relação às suas necessidades de informação no contexto de um serviço de reabilitação auditiva do Sistema Único de Saúde. Métodos estudo transversal, observacional, com amostra de conveniência de 58 responsáveis por crianças com deficiência auditiva. Aplicou-se o Inventário de Necessidades Familiares traduzido e adaptado para o português brasileiro e foram coletados os dados de escolaridade dos responsáveis e as variáveis idade da criança e idade no diagnóstico. Foi realizada análise descritiva e inferencial. Resultados todas as famílias apresentaram necessidades de informação, sendo que, para as famílias com menor escolaridade, a necessidade de informações sobre a audição e os dispositivos auditivos foi mais frequente. Na análise de regressão, não se observou influência da escolaridade na quantidade de necessidades de informação, mesmo considerando no modelo a idade cronológica da criança e a idade no seu diagnóstico. Conclusão famílias de todas as escolaridades analisadas apresentaram necessidades de informação, sendo que a escolaridade não influenciou a quantidade de informações requeridas. Foi possível observar diferença qualitativa nos tópicos de necessidades de informação, o que alerta para a importância de investigações sobre as necessidades das famílias em programas de reabilitação auditiva infantil, de modo a se efetivar abordagens mais centradas nas famílias.

RESUMO Objetivo Analisar a autopercepção de crianças e adolescentes com deficiência auditiva e de suas famílias quanto ao uso diário dos dispositivos auditivos, comparando o uso referido com os dados de data logging, bem como conhecer os seus benefícios autorrelatados. Métodos Estudo transversal, observacional, descritivo-analítico. Aplicados questionários a 38 famílias e seus filhos com deficiência auditiva, bem como coletado o data logging com o número de horas/dia de uso dos aparelhos auditivos. Realizada a análise descritiva e comparativa, por meio do coeficiente de Kappa, entre o data logging e o uso referido pelos usuários e famílias, além da análise qualitativa sobre a percepção de ambos com relação aos dispositivos. Resultados As crianças, adolescentes e suas famílias superestimaram, respectivamente, em média, 5,3 e 2,5 horas por dia o tempo de uso, em comparação à medida de data logging. Os usuários referiram benefícios com o uso dos equipamentos, embora o uso e o manuseio dos microfones remotos tenham sido o maior desafio identificado, tanto para eles como para as suas famílias. Conclusão Houve discordância entre o número de horas relatadas pelos usuários e famílias entre si, bem como entre eles e a medição do data logging. As famílias referiram a necessidade de mais orientações quanto aos microfones remotos, o que aponta para a importância da intervenção personalizada voltada ao empoderamento desses familiares, crianças e adolescentes, com o envolvimento da equipe escolar e rede de apoio, identificadas pelas famílias como essenciais para o uso efetivo dos dispositivos auditivos.

ABSTRACT Purpose To analyze the self-perception of hard of hearing children and adolescents and their families about the daily use of hearing devices, comparing the referred use with data logging, as well as knowing the self-reported benefits with hearing aids. Methods Cross-sectional, observational, descriptive-analytical study, with quantitative and qualitative analysis, approved by the Research Ethics Committee. Adapted Questionnaires were applied to 38 children and adolescents and their families, additionally, the data logging of their devices was collected. Descriptive and comparative analysis were performed, using the Kappa coefficient between data logging and the use reported by users and families, in addition to qualitative analysis of their perception about the devices. Results Children, adolescents and their families overestimated, respectively, on average 5.3 and 2.5 hours per day, the time of hearing aids use, compared to the data logging measure. They r eported benefits from using hearing aids, although the use and the handling of remote microphones were the biggest identified challenge , both for the users and for their families. Conclusion There was disagreement between the number of hours reported by users and their families , as well as between them and the data logging measure. Families reported the need for more guidance about remote microphones, which points to the importance of personalized intervention aimed at the empowerment of these family members, children and adolescents, with the involvement of the school team and support network, identified by the families as essential for the effective use of hearing devices.

RESUMO Objetivo Adaptar o protocolo Indicadores de Performance Funcional Auditiva Brasileiro para uma versão reduzida, incluindo a produção de material e de um manual de aplicação. Método Estudo do tipo metodológico, descritivo e transversal, com abordagem quantiqualitativa, realizado com sete fonoaudiólogos que aplicaram o protocolo em 34 crianças com deficiência auditiva e seus responsáveis. Cumpriram-se a análise da validade de conteúdo, bem como da confiabilidade do instrumento por meio da avaliação da equivalência semântica, da análise da satisfação dos fonoaudiólogos e dos testes estatísticos alfa de Cronbach e coeficiente de Kappa. Resultados Foi adaptada a versão reduzida denominada FAPI-r, com coeficientes que indicaram consistência interna e concordância interavaliadores quase perfeitos. Os fonoaudiólogos referiram satisfação com o instrumento e relataram que o manual de aplicação facilitou o entendimento sobre a aplicação do teste. Observou-se, no entanto, a não concordância entre a avaliação dos fonoaudiólogos e as respostas das famílias, indicando a necessidade de maior inserção destas no cenário terapêutico. Conclusão Realizada a adaptação do FAPI-r, constatando-se sua validade e confiabilidade, com futuros desdobramentos para a pesquisa e atuação clínica na população de crianças com deficiência auditiva.

ABSTRACT Purpose To adapt the Brazilian Functional Auditory Performance Indicators protocol to a short version including the production of material and an application manual. Methods Methodological, descriptive, cross-sectional study with a quantitative and qualitative approach conducted with seven speech-language therapists who applied the protocol to 34 children with hearing loss and their guardians. The analysis of content validity and the instrument reliability evaluated the semantic equivalence, analysis of satisfaction of speech therapists, and statistical tests of Cronbach’s Alpha and Kappa coefficient. Results The short version, called FAPI-r, was adapted considering coefficients that indicate internal consistency and almost perfect inter-evaluator agreement. Speech-language therapists reported satisfaction with the instrument and stated that the manual facilitates the understanding of the test application. However, there was no agreement between the assessment of speech-language therapists and the answers of families, indicating a need for a greater insertion of families in the therapeutic scenario. Conclusion The adapted FAPI-r has validity and reliability, promising future developments for research and clinical performance in the population of hard of hearing children.

Abstract The present study describes the community diversity and gives a seasonal distribution of an intertidal macroalgal assemblage at Prainha Beach, Arraial do Cabo City in Rio de Janeiro state, Brazil. Sampling was performed during four seasons of a 1-year period. Organisms were sampled and photographed using photoquadrats to quantify relative coverage. Ninety-six taxa of macroalgae were registered, including 23 chlorophytes, 19 ochrophytes, and 54 rhodophytes, while three barnacles, seven mollusks, one isopod, and one polychaete were recorded among the zoobenthos. In the upper intertidal zone, the coverage was frequently dominated by invertebrates. Macroalgae always dominated the middle and lower zones, covering almost 100 % in both zones. The highest values of species diversity (H’), richness (S), and turnover rates were found during the transition from spring to summer, which coincided with the upwelling period. A comparison with the 1980’s flora revealed that the major changes in the macroalgal assemblage were among species belonging to the same genera, unless new additions were provided. The combination of photoquadrats and minimally destructive sampling allowed a detailed description of the composition and structural characteristics of the intertidal zone, a methodology that should be applied to study protected marine areas.

Resumo A mixotrofia tem se mostrado uma característica comum entre dinoflagelados e a sua importância na ecologia nutricional de algas nocivas vem sendo investigada. Espécies bentônicas nocivas não foram tão estudadas quanto as planctônicas, e existem grandes lacunas no conhecimento de suas estratégias nutricionais. A ocorrência de fagotrofia em comunidades naturais de dinoflagelados bentônicos foi investigada usando microscopia de epi-fluorescência e marcação por DAPI e LysoSensor. O estudo foi realizado em cinco locais ao longo da costa do Rio de Janeiro nos meses de janeiro, agosto e dezembro de 2010. No total, foram observadas 1659 células de dinoflagelados. Destas, apenas 0,4% das 1195 células de Ostreopsis cf. ovata e 2,2% das 134 células de Coolia spp. observadas apresentaram evidências de fagotrofia com vacúolos marcados por LysoSensor ou inclusão celular marcada por DAPI (4', 6-diamidino-2-phenylindole). Não foram observados vacúolos marcados nas 330 células de Prorocentrum spp. observadas. Células de O. cf. ovata apresentaram inclusões esféricas avermelhadas ("red spots") que não foram coradas por DAPI e LysoSensor, sugerindo que estas estruturas não correspondem a presas ou a vacúolos digestivos. Os resultados mostraram que a fagotrofia não foi uma estratégia nutricional frequente nas espécies de dinoflagelados bentônicos observadas durante o período de estudo.

Abstract Mixotrophy has been shown to be a common trait among dinoflagellates and its importance in the nutritional ecology of harmful algae has been hypothesized. Benthic harmful species have not been extensively investigated as their planktonic counterparts and there are major gaps in the knowledge of their nutritional strategies. In this study the occurrence of phagotrophy was investigated in natural assemblages of benthic dinoflagellates using epi-fluorescence microscopy with DAPI and LysoSensor staining. The study was conducted at five sites along the coast of Rio de Janeiro that were visited in January, August and December 2010. In total, 1659 dinoflagellate cells were observed. From these, only 0.4% of 1195 Ostreopsis cf. ovata and 2.2% of 134 Coolia spp. cells presented evidence of phagotrophy with vacuoles stained by LysoSensor or a DAPI (4',6-diamidino-2-phenylindole) stained inclusion. Stained vacuoles were not registered in the 330 Prorocentrum spp. cells observed. Few O. cf. ovata cells contained round red inclusions ("red spots") that were not stained either by DAPI or LysoSensor, suggesting that these structures are not ingested prey. The results showed that phagotrophy was not a frequent nutritional strategy in benthic dinoflagellates during the study period.

RESUMO Foi avaliado o efeito da suplementação energética com milho em grão moído no desempenho e comportamento de caprinos da raça Anglonubiana em sistema silvipastoril formado por leucena e gramíneas tropicais. O experimento foi realizado em área formada com Leucena (Leucaena leucocephala (Lam.) de Wit.) consorciada com estrato herbáceo com predominância de gramíneas tropicais (capim-Tifton 85, capim-andropógon e capim-colonião). Adotou-se o delineamento inteiramente casualizado com quatro tratamentos e cinco repetições. Foram utilizados caprinos em crescimento, sendo o grupo controle alimentado apenas com pastagem e os demais grupos suplementados com milho moído a 0,5; 0,9 e 1,3% do peso vivo. A suplementação reduziu o tempo de pastejo das gramíneas e aumentou os tempos de ruminação e ócio, embora os caprinos tenham despendido aproximadamente 85% do tempo pastejando gramíneas, indicando preferência por esta forragem. A suplementação energética aumentou o ganho de peso por animal e por unidade de área. Em sistema silvipastoril formado por leucena e gramíneas tropicais os caprinos preferem as gramíneas, no entanto, o pastejo da leguminosa proporciona consumo de proteína que justifica aporte energético suplementar. A suplementação de caprinos em sistema silvipastoril formado por gramíneas tropicais e leucena com milho como fonte energética na proporção de até 1,3% do peso vivo influencia o comportamento ingestivo, com efeito favorável sobre o desempenho dos animais.

ABSTRACT The effect was evaluated of energy supplementation with ground maize grain on the performance and behaviour of Anglo-Nubian goats under a silvopastoral system of leucena and tropical grasses. The experiment was carried out in an area of Leucaena (Leucaena leucocephala (Lam.) De Wit.) intercropped with a herbaceous layer having a predominance of tropical grasses (Tifton 85, Andropogon and Guinea). A completely randomised design with four treatments and five replications was adopted. Growing goats were used; the control group being fed only on pasture, and the other groups supplemented with ground maize at 0.5, 0.9 and 1.3% of live weight. Supplementation reduced grazing time and increased rumination and idle time; although the goats spent approximately 85% of the time grazing on grasses, indicating a preference for this forage. Energy supplementation increased the weight gain per animal per unit area. Under a silvopastoral system of leucaena and tropical grasses, goats prefer the grasses, however, grazing on the legume results in a protein intake that justifies additional energy input. The supplementation of goats under a silvopastoral system of tropical grasses and leucaena, with maize as an energy source at a rate of up to 1.3% of live weight, influences feeding behaviour, having a favourable effect on animal performance.

A pesquisa foi desenvolvida para avaliar o comportamento de frangos de corte, criados em condições de estresse térmico, no período de 1 a 21 dias de idade, alimentados com dietas contendo diferentes níveis de selênio (0,5; 1,1; 1,7; 2,3; 2,9 e 3,5ppm de Se.Kg-1de ração). As dietas experimentais foram isonutritivas, exceto para o selênio. Foram utilizados sessenta pintos da linhagem Ross, mistos, distribuídas em delineamento em blocos casualizados, com seis tratamentos e cinco repetições com duas aves por parcela. O ambiente interno dos galpões foi avaliado com base no Índice de Temperatura de Globo Negro e Umidade (ITGU), no Índice de Temperatura e Umidade (ITU) e Temperatura Efetiva (TE). As variáveis comportamentais estudadas foram: comer, beber, abrir bico, asa aberta, parada, deitar, andar, ciscando, esticando membros, bando de poeira, limpar penas, brigar e prostrar. Os níveis de selênio na dieta interferiram na frequência de visita dos frangos ao comedouro, nos tratamentos experimentais com 1,7 e 2,3mg de Se.Kg-1, apresentando menores valores. Porem, as frequências dos frangos, com os comportamentos: bebendo, com asa aberta, parado, andando, realizando limpeza das asas, brigando e prostrado, não foram influenciadas pelos níveis de selênio das dietas. Assim, pode-se inferir a partir dos resultados comportamentais contraditórios obtidos neste estudo, que vários fatores estão envolvidos no comportamento das aves, com destaque para as variáveis ambientais e nutricionais.

A research was conducted to evaluate the performance of broilers reared in conditions of heat stress, during 1-21 days of age, fed with diets containing different levels of selenium ( 0,5; 1,1; 1,7; 2,3; 2,9 and 3,5ppm of Se.Kg -1 of diet). The experimental diets were isonutritives except for selenium. Sixty chicken strains Ross, mixed, distributed in a randomized block design with six treatments and five replications with two birds per pen were used. The internal environment of the sheds was evaluated based on the Temperature Index Black Globe Humidity (BGT), the Temperature and Humidity Index (THI) and Effective Temperature (ET). The behavioral variables were: eating, drinking , open beak, wing open, stop, lie down, walk, scratching, stretching limbs, bunch of dust, clean feathers, fighting and prostrate. Levels of selenium in the diet interfered in the frequency of visits to the feeder of chickens, with the experimental treatments of 1.7 and 2.3mg Se.Kg -1, presenting lower values. However, the frequency of chickens with behaviors: drinking, with open wings standing, walking, carrying out cleaning of wings, fighting prostrate and were not influenced by the levels of selenium diets. Thus, it can be inferred from the contradictory behavioral results obtained in this study, several factors are involved in the behavior of birds, with emphasis on the environmental and nutritional variables.

O fígado desempenha uma função central no metabolismo devido à sua interposição entre o trato digestivo e a circulação geral do organismo. Ele é também o principal órgão envolvido na biotransformação de substâncias exógenas (xenobióticos), com capacidade de converter compostos hidrofóbicos em hidrossolúveis, mais facilmente eliminados pelo organismo. O gossipol é uma substância fenólica tóxica presente na semente de algodão (Gossypium sp). Com o objetivo de estudar os mecanismos envolvidos na hepatotoxicidade do gossipol avaliou-se os seus efeitos no sistema antioxidante do fígado de ratos no que diz respeito ao estresse oxidativo e aspectos histopatológicos. Foram utilizados ratos machos da linhagem Wistar, separados em dois grupos, sendo que um recebeu óleo de canola (veículo, grupo Controle) e o outro recebeu gossipol na dosagem de 40 mg/kg de peso vivo do animal por 15 dias (grupo Tratado). O tratamento com gossipol promoveu alterações na atividade sérica das enzimas marcadoras de dano hepático e um significativo estresse oxidativo caracterizado pela diminuição nos níveis da glutationa reduzida (GSH) e consequente aumento da glutationa oxidada (GSSG), incluindo, ainda, danos à membrana plasmática e de organelas demonstrados pela peroxidação lipídica. O resultado da avaliação histopatológica demonstrou degeneração dos hepatócitos.

The liver plays a central role in metabolism due to its interposition between the digestive tract and the general circulation of the organism. It is also the main organ involved in biotransformation of exogenous substances (xenobiotics), with ability to convert hydrophobic compounds in water-soluble, more easily eliminated by the body. Gossypol is a toxic phenolic substance present in cotton seed (Gossypium sp.). Aiming to study the mechanisms involved in the hepatotoxicity of gossypol we evaluate its effects on the antioxidant system of rat liver performing an experiment that investigated the oxidative stress and the histopathological alterations. In this study, we used Wistar rats, divided into two groups, one that received canola oil (vehicle, Control group) and another that received gossypol at a dose of 40mg/kg body weight of the animal for 15 days (Treated group). The treatment with gossypol caused alterations in the activity of seric enzymes that indicate hepatic injury and a significant oxidative stress characterized by a decrease of reduced glutathione (GSH) levels and a consequent increase in oxidized glutathione (GSSG), including further damage to the plasma membrane and organelles showed by lipid peroxidation. The result of histopathological evaluation showed degeneration of the hepatocytes.

Os efeitos de substâncias genotóxicas sobre o genoma de peixes tem sido objeto de muitos estudos, sobretudo daqueles que buscam estabelecer a resposta dos genes aos estímulos ambientais. O presente trabalho teve como objetivo realizar um estudo sobre mutagenicidade e genotoxicidade em peixes elétricos da espécie Eingenmannia virescens, pela exposição ao benzeno (50ppm), utilizando as técnicas da Freqüência de Micronúcleos (MNs) e o Ensaio do Cometa. Foram coletadas amostras do sangue de dez peixes em diferentes tempos de exposição: T0, 24h, 48h, 72h, 96h e 360h (15 dias). Para a análise das lâminas no Teste do MN, foram contadas 1.000 células e estipulada a freqüência de ocorrência de MNs. Para análise do Ensaio do Cometa a contagem foi feita estipulando quatro classes de danos: I - II - III - IV, e para a análise estatística foram atribuídos valores numéricos (ranques) de 0 a 3, respectivamente, verificando diferenças significativas para a soma dos ranques em todos os tempos de exposição em relação ao T0. No Teste do Micronúcleo não foi possível detectar efeitos mutagênicos significativos nos eritrócitos analisados. No entanto, para o Ensaio do Cometa os resultados sugerem ação genotóxica do benzeno, devido a um aumento gradual no número de células com maiores classes de danos de acordo com maior tempo de exposição, indicando um efeito tempo-dependente. Estes resultados sugerem maior sensibilidade do Ensaio do Cometa que o Teste do MN.

The effects of genotoxic substances on fishes genome have been object of many studies, especially those which attempt to establish the responses of genes to environmental stimulus. The objective of this study was to evaluate the mutagenicity and genotoxicity in electric fishes of species Eingenmannia virescens, under to benzene exposure (50ppm), utilizing Micronuclei Test (MNs) and Comet Assay techniques. Ten fish blood samples were collected in different times of exposure: T0, 24h, 48h, 72h, 96h and 360h (15 days). To determine the frequency of MNs, 1.000 cells per microscopical slides were counted. For the Comet Assay analysis, four damage classes were defined: I - II - III - IV, and for the statistic analysis number values (ranks) from 0 to 3 were assigned for each class. The sum of ranks (values) for all times of exposure was compared to T0 and these differences were statistically analyzed. On Micronuclei Test demonstrated do not possible detect significant mutagenic effects in the erythrocytes analyzed. On the other hand, for the Comet Assay, the results suggested genotoxic action of benzene, proper the gradual increase of number of cells with greatest damage class with the greatest of exposure time, indicating an effect time-dependent. These results suggested the most sensibility for the Comet Assay like Micronuclei Test.

Relações entre o desenvolvimento fitoplanctônico e bacterioplanctônico foram observadas ao longo do tempo em um experimento de laboratório, simulando condições de ressurgência parcial e completa. As produções primária e bacteriana apresentaram um padrão similar, com três fases de desenvolvimento em águas com algum grau de ressurgência. Entretanto, o momento em que ocorrem as fases é invertido, ou seja, os picos de produção bacteriana ocorrem nas fases de indução (aumento) e declínio da produção primária ao passo que, nas fases de pico de produção fitoplanctônica a produção bacteriana apresenta os menores valores. As análises dos dados obtidos nesse experimento sugerem uma estreita relação entre o bacterioplâncton e o fitoplâncton, onde as bactérias teriam como uma importante fonte de carbono a matéria orgânica particulada e dissolvida proveniente do fitoplâncton. Além disso, as bactérias teriam papel preponderante nas fases iniciais dos "blooms" fitoplanctônicos quando seriam um dos principais agentes condicionadores das águas recém ressurgidas, possibilitando o pleno desenvolvimento do fitoplâncton.

A relationship between phytoplankton and bacterioplankton has been observed in a laboratory experiment, simulating partial and complete upwelling conditions. Primary and bacterial productivity presented a similar pattern, with a three-stage development (growth, peak and decline in production). However, bacterial development stages did not occur simultaneously with the phytoplanktonic development, that is, the highest bacterial production rates occurred in the stages of growth and decline of the primary production, whilst the lowest values of bacterial productivity were simultaneous to the highest phytoplanktonic production stage. Analysis of data obtained in this experiment shows a close relationship between phytoplankton and bacteria, in which these organisms might be competing for inorganic nutrients in some moments, and bacteria might have, as an important source of carbon, the particulate or dissolved organic matter coming from the phytoplankton. Besides that, bacteria might play an important role in the initial stages of phytoplankton blooms, when they might be one of the main conditioning agents of the waters that have just upwelled, allowing the plain phytoplanktonic development.
